Book Club (Group Leader-Kim Miller) The Book Group met this month and enjoyed a lively discussion about The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls. Jeannette Walls' memoirs are amazing and unbelievable. It is one of the most fascinating books I've read. Jeannette Walls wrote a second book called Half Broke Horses which is about her grandmother. We will be reading it for our get together on May 11 at 1:00 pm at Barnes and Noble. Barbara Thompson will be leading us in the discussion about this book. I have suggested a book for June 8 called Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea. It was written by Barbara Demick. This book gives an interesting insight into a country that closed off to the rest of the world. Carole Hess has volunteered to be a discussion leader for Girl in the Blue Dress, by Gaynor Arnold. This will be our July book. Although fiction, the author was inspired by letters written by Charles Dickens' wife Catherine and wrote this, her first novel, based on the Dickens, especially Catherine, and her marriage to Charles. Come join us! We welcome all members. Kids Alliance -The Kids Alliance is for AWCMS members' children and grandchildren (and their friends). This group gives our children the chance to help us with our mission: promoting the health of our community. Previous projects include decorating quilt squares made into blankets for U.S. soldiers, joining in the Walk for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and celebrating Valentine's Day at an adult day care center. Through the Kids Alliance, children learn the importance of community service. Playgroup (Group Leader-Simmi Sekhon) Knitting (Group Leader-Rene Rores) -Knitters & Crocheters meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at Jimmy Beans Wool, ( near ToysRUs) from 1pm to 3pm. We are all at different levels of experience (some have no experience). Some of our members have started to learn to knit by making scarves, then on to felted purses and sweaters. It is a great way to get to know each other for a couple of hours a month. Very fun and relaxing!
